Notes by Abigail Lavine
I was lucky enough to score six Ventures 8-tracks in one shining
afternoon, which was six more than I had before, but really
nothing when you consider that The Ventures have released 235
albums worldwide. Of my six, this one gets more play than any of
the others. At first, I wasn't sure why this one sounded so
great, but then I read the label carefully. It features -
"Sonic Spectrum+...the ultimate achievement in recorded tape sound. Expanded frequency response (EER) and lower distortion are made possible by major advancements in duplication and a superior new tape".
Now, about the cover art... If you are familiar with the vinyl version of this record, you will realize that the picture is cropped considerably. So much, in fact, that it entirely loses its meaning. In the original cover photo, the girl is turning in surprise because The Ventures are all lined up beside her, about to knock her down with the headstocks of their guitars. It's a lame visual pun (The Ventures: Knock Me Out, get it?). Oh well. A little something got lost in the translation.
