The Sex Pistols are no strangers to controversy, so
it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that this tape has
caused contention within the 8-track community. Mr. Bucks, the
8-track capitalist, sold a copy of this 8-track in his
now-defunct store, 14 Records in Dallas, for the unprecedented
sum of $100. While some trackers found this amusing or amazing,
others felt that it was the first step toward driving up the
price of 8-tracks and making them "collectible". There
have been furious letters on the subject sent to 8-Track Mind. There was even a swap
meet in Chicago recently which was organized in order to
reinforce the idea that 8-tracks have no monetary value
whatsoever (no cash transactions of over 50 cents were allowed).
Whatever your opinion on the subject, there can be no doubt that Never
Mind the Bollocks... is one of the more interesting 8-tracks
around. Because it has captured the interest of so many 8-track
hobbyists and because it's such a damn fine recording, Never
Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols is hereby inducted
into the 8-Track Hall of Fame on October 10th, 1995.
A big thank you to Jim Sharpe for rummaging through the archives at Plastikville Records in order to find this historic tape.
