When you first see the orange and purple reclining woman on the spine of this tape, you think "Wow! One of those porno 8-tracks I've always heard about!" Pulling the tape from the stack, the cover seems to confirm you have something X-rated in your hands: the title on the front is "LULU TAKES IT OFF." Luckily, the notation "8-Track Head Cleaner" in the lower right hand corner, although in smaller type, will set you straight.

This tape is pure genius. How better to market a utilitarian item? After all, you might not have thought you needed a head cleaner when you walked into J.C. Penney's audio department, but once you've got the thing in your hand to find out if it's really prurient, aren't you that much closer to purchasing it? The joke continues with the instructions on the back: "Because of the subject matter of this tape, it is recommended that Lulu be kept away from your children." I didn't know that J.C. Penney even had 8-track products manufactured for their stores, much less that a second-rate department store could have such a tongue in cheek sense of humor. Bravo.
