Abigail Lavine

Abigail Lavine, co-founder of 8-Track Heaven, died on April 1, 1997 at 11:07 a.m. Abbey had been seriously ill since being diagnosed with cancer in fall 1996. She received the best in care during her last months from her husband Scott and died quietly at home. Thank you to everyone who wrote Abbey during this time; she read every message and it always cheered her up to hear from people.

Abigail, Chip Rowe, and I created 8-track Heaven in 1995, but it was Abbey who took the ball and ran with it. None of us really knew very much about HTML or web authoring; Abbey went from being a veritable technophobe to a web expert in less than a year. Though we worked together on the site, Abbey ultimately wrote 95% of the HTML for the first build of 8-track Heaven. She was a great inspiration to me and all those who bumped into her on the internet.

Abbey was a visible presence on the web and contributed so much to people who knew her. She and I originally met through our mutual love for 8-track tapes by way of Russ Forster’s fine ‘zine 8-track Mind. Thanks to Russ, I had the honor of knowing “the Ab” the last two years of her life.

LINKS OUTTA HERE, the CD and 8-track tape tribute to Abbey, was created in honor of Abigail Lavine by an eclectic array of acclaimed sound artists and musicians. The CD was beautifully packaged in an edition of 1000; metallic gold ink on black canvas by Gary Blodgett and an orginal edition of 1000 prints by Leif Elggren.

Sincerely,

Malcolm Riviera
