This
tape is a New Year's Eve party in a box! At least if these are
the kind of songs you like to listen to on New Year's Eve. I'm
sure this 8-track was used to bring in many a New Year...getting
the track cued up to Auld Lang
Syne...counting down the clock with the other
drunken partiers...then slamming the cartridge in the player at
the stroke of midnight!
Guy Lombardo's band was founded in 1916, and although Guy died
in 1977, the Lombardo Orchestra continues to play to this day and
is credited as the longest running act in show business
history, now playing to the great grandchildren of the original
fans. The band introduced over 500 hit songs, more than any other
musical organization. The Lombardo New Year's Eve Party at NYC's
famed Waldorf Historia Hotel was the longest running annual
special program in radio history. 1979 marked their 50th
consecutive broadcast.
On television they performed for more than 1.5 billion viewers
since they first telecast their New Year's Eve Party in 1954.
