From: JTGriffithI have really liked the 8 Track Heaven and have read it and logged on many many times just in the past few days. I got turned on to 8 Tracks just a week or so ago (having used them in the 1970s!) and made my first lot purchase this past week....I am now the proud owner of 69 8 Tracks! I am addicted to the 8 Track mentality and have also recently added to my vinyl collection (great cheesy stuff like percy faith and loung sounds to go with the rock staples...) and also have tracked down some old old 78s for a friend who just found an old grammaphone....buck the new technologies completely i say! Also I wanted to pass on my condolences about your friend who passed away. I just lost a good friend last week and was saddened to read of Abbey's death. Thanks for the great joy of the FAQ and the site....what a great zen happiness to have uncovered. I agree and embrace it all....and am excited to continue through the stages.... sincerely, --JT Griffith
From: Bob Farace <rfarace**uconect.net> Hi-- Just thought I'd say hi. I've been visiting 8-Track Heaven for a while now, and I like the site. I had given up on 8-track in 1984 when my old '63 Valiant that I had installed an under-dash player in finally rusted to the point where it was rather unsafe to drive. All my vehicles since then have had cassette players. I've only recently capitulated and bought a CD player, but to be honest, my turntable still gets more use. (And hey, the new Patti Smith album is available on vinyl!) A few events conspired to get me started back on the path to 8-tracks. I was (well, still am) pursuing a girl that is a teacher and told me that she plays 8-tracks in her classroom on occasion "to torture the kids." (Well, she's a history teacher, so it makes sense anyway.) I started looking for cartridges for her. (Found her Joe Jackson's "I'm the Man" recently.) Then I was at a yard sale in Maine when I was there on vacation and found a nice clean copy of The Stooges "Funhouse" on 8-track! (In Maine? I never would have thought . . .) I kept that one. (I could scan it if you ever want me to.) Then I mysteriously found myself bidding on a Realistic 8-track player/recorder (with real VU meters!) in an auction at eBay. It's now in my living room, waiting for me to get to Radio Shack for a pair of cables to hook it up. (I've got too many things vying for the AUX input on my old stereo, so I now have a patch bay.) And I found a couple of blank tapes . . . Anyway, just thought I'd stop for a moment and say hi. Keep up the great work on the page. --Bob Farace

I am in complete agreement with your analysis of the Compact Disc market (although my solution is to buy used CD's). Well done. Tim Hansen thansen**pensys.com

From: Russell Case <102255.1512**compuserve.com> Hi, Malcolm, I got hooked on eight tracks because of your site (partly). I have a son with mental retardation who's really into 60's and 70's rock. Problem was he's keep rewinding cassettes to hear the same song again and again! Driving us crazy and quickly burning out tapes and recorder. Solution: Eight tracks! Now there's just one button for him to push, and all he can do is change tracks. The eight-track player has outlasted several cassette players, and we get to hear whole sides of albums. Very cool! Problem is, a couple of the players I bought for $1 and $2 respectively are missing one speaker on track one and seem to have that missing track shadowing on track 4. I guess the problem is a height adjustment on the player. Is that something I can do myself? Anywhere on the Web I can go to find out how? Or do you think I can figure it out by just looking? Thanks! I do enjoy all the eight track stuff, and it's fun trying to find tapes at Church sales and flea markets! It's funny but few of the tapes seem to be what the covers say they are. Makes for some interesting surprises! Regards, Russ Case
From: John McEvoy <jmcevoy**execulink.com> Hi, Malcolm. I just discovered the 8-Track Heaven page tonight, on a fluke. I was bored and fired up my search engine to show me something on 8-tracks. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed to find that there is a place out on the endless digital domain that an analog lover like myself can comfortably visit. I mainly collect records, but I will always have a place in my heart for the endless loop cartridge. I have a somewhat modest collection, (presently about 100 tapes), but I resolve to keep my eyes open for the goodies. I mainly collect pop, rock, disco and punk. This, I find, dispells the myth among the uninitiated that 8-tracks are for polkas and country music. They are often quite surprised when I pop in my copy of AC/DC's "Back In Black" or The Doors' "Absolutely Live". Anywayz, keep up the good work and I'll catcha at the foil. Sincerely, Eric Carpenter jmcevoy**execulink.com PS....I also just read of the passing of Abbey and was saddened that I would not have a chance to get to know someone who sounded like quite a lady. My condolences to all her family and friends.
From: Scott Eklund <i9337889**mail.wsu.edu> Subject: Good Job! I operate the Ford Torino Page (the only Torino page) and would just like to say I love your page, and all of the different topics and links availiable. I just got a player (75 Ford original, for my 75 Torino) and it didn't work well, so I was surfing for some info. I think it will need to be professionally repaired, do you have any reccomendations? I will link your page today, as I am sure there are a few Torino people out there who may want this info. Oh, speaking of Torino, I have the 8-Track of David Soul (played Hutch) and it is kind of bad music, but it's cool. I picked up some clearance blank tapes at Radio Shack about 3 yrs ago. Is there anywhere else a person can get any? Anyway, thank you again. Scott Eklund

Subject: 8-Tracks
Dear Sir,
I thought I was totally alone and that it was totally unhealthy for
an otherwise normal 16-year-old boy to be interested in 8-tracks. Your site
is, honestly, one of the most comprehensive on any subject that I've ever
seen.
I have three players, fairly run-of-the-mill I would imagine: a Panasonic
stereo receiver, a Meriton recording componant, and yesterday I acquired
a JCPenny portible stereo AM/FM 8-Track. All three were broken when I
bought them, usually just with tape wrapped around the roller, but the
JCPenny has parts melted together.
I have about 60 cassettes. A few are interesting: I have that Cadillac
1978 one that is featured on your page. Also, what is the deal with certain
tapes that seem to have been made illeglly by dubbing lps onto tape? I have
a few Yes ones like that, made by a company called "Nice to be nice."
Maybe I'm naieve, but what do you think are the chances of me locating
a Dinomite plunger model, and how much would I have to pay?
Thanks for your time. Your page made my day.
-Nat.
