GRT/Dynovoice 887-31908
Also known as Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy, Roger Vadim's wacked-out '60's film classic was Hanoi Jane's finest moment. Featuring an ultra-groovy pop soundtrack, this 8-track is simply a splendid listen. It's beautiful little Ortronics cart, and comes with a deluxe art sleeve, as most early GRT tapes did. This is a good tape to pop in while you're doing errands around the house and need some peppy background entertainment. If you'll take a close look at the song listing, the label does not break down the songs by program, so you never really know what song you're listening to! The lyrics and music are by Bob Crewe and Charles Fox, performed by the Bob Crewe Orchestra, and sung by The Glitterhouse and Bob Crewe. (The Glitterhouse were a short-lived psychedelic/pop band that were equal parts Love, Johnny Rivers, and Procol Harum). The music is a what you might call space-age pop: pseudo-psychedelic "rock" numbers done Hollywood style. This is the type of music that inspired the songs in Austin Powers!
from Allmovie.com:
"Once viewers get beyond that notorious opening striptease, Roger Vadim's Barbarella veers more towards campy comedy than sexual stimulation. Jane Fonda, then Vadim's wife, plays the scantily clad futuristic comic-strip heroine created by Jean-Claude Forest. Trivia: Milo O'Shea is listed in the credits as "The Concierge," but he is identified in the film as Duran Duran -- and yes, the rock group of the 1970s was named after him, rather than the other way around. Jane Fonda delivers a marvelous comic performance, combining golly-gee innocence with heavy-breathing sensuality."
