George Harrison - Cloud Nine

by Malcolm Riviera

This tape holds several distinctions that qualify it for the Hall of Fame. The first is that it was manufactured in 1987, the year before the final 8-track tapes were released through the Columbia House tape club, which was the only company still producing 8-tracks at the time. The second distinction is that this is the last 8-track ever released by a Beatle, which probably contributes heavily to the third distinction: for some reason, people will pay insane amounts of money for this tape.  World-famous track baron James "Big Bucks" Burnette  reputedly sold a copy of Cloud Nine for $150 to one dealer, who in turn sold it for even more to a collector. I paid a buck for it, but I am much more interested in the fact that it was released in 1987 than in it being a good investment. It's not even a very good album, IMNSHO*, which means that it doesn't get played very much at my house. As far as Cloud Nine being such a rarity, I don't really get it, but nonetheless it has become an extremely sought-after cart.

Cloud Nine has officially entered The 8-Track Hall of Fame on this 17th of March, 1996.

* People frequently write and disagree with my opinion about this album... hey, if you like this album, do your own web site and rave about it! It's a free country, right?
