My 8 track player is in my 1965 Humber Septre car along with many tapes, I also have two home units. Adrian Ross, England [adrian-anne@cross38.freeserve.co.uk]

John Winnard, of Win-Gibs fame, poses with his cat, his carts, and a message for all you eBayers who are unlucky enough to stumble across one of his auctions!

O K, I've seen the pros and cons of why I should or shouldn't continue with my obsession with 8 tracks. I can say the same about the 71 VW bug I'm restoring. Some like ''em, some hate 'em, some don't want to admit they like 'em. I grew up with 'em and learned how to repair them by trial and error. I've tried the same with cassettes with very little success. The bottom line is this.- I work in an adolescent shelter and have my 200 plus collection displayed on my office wall along with my Craig and Panasonic 8 track recorder, The SPACE helmet, and three under dash players. When the clients see this their eyes bulge in curiosity at what these things are and how they work. I take joy and pride in showing them the insides of a lost and forgotten genius. Then when I put one in, say, Hank Williams and Minnie pearl at the grand ole opry, they think its the radio playing, until I switch tracks. Then I have the joy of explaining the purpose of the tracks and how there's only 4 tracks on the player but 8 on the label. I enjoy keeping the old alive. Not because I'm obsessed with it, but because I appreciate and respect it. I could collect stamps, but they don't sound as good. Thanx, Mark Tidwell mhtfixit@juno.com

I've been on an off your site for 3 years,   and have loved it.   I am here in So. Oregon collecting for about 5 years. It has since dropped off, but not until I scored a lot of great treasures, including the rare, odd, and anything else you can imagine. Rock, reggae, big band, auto dealer carts, stand-up comics, plus a 20+ collection of portable players. I have maybe 10 nice quality hi-fi players, one triple player, about 5 under dash players, the niced one of those is a Clarion in-dash am/fm/cart/with 40 channel CB. High quality unit in mint condition fresh out of a '76 Porshe 911.    Keep up the great work, I never had a pic of any of my stuff to send you guys, until now. This is the top picks of my 450+ collection of tapes. Wow, the shelf looks empty here,  all the rare stuff is on the top shelf.      ..beastie_bus@hotmail.com              max.

Mr. Sledge is our unofficial "Senior Tracker" here on 8-track Heaven. He's 80 years young, and only recently got into 8-tracking, having acquired the player shown here throught the 8-track Heaven classifieds. Mr. Sledge enjoys country and religious tapes, and would probably love to hear from you!

He also sent me an interesting news clipping on 74-year old Tom Murphy, who recently retired after 26 years in the Georgia House of Representatives. Rep. Murphy still listens to 8-tracks, although "some of them are getting rotten...I'm having to replace them with CDs."

"I almost grew up a little late for 8-tracks; but, for some strange reason, my mom bought a VERY large stereo system with an 8-track in it. This was the late '70s. Inexplicable. It was this massive piece of furniture, with wood sides -- stood nearly 3 feet tall, and had a tuner and turntable. So, we always had carts in the house. The pictured player, however, is the first one I have ever owned. It's a modular Glennburn player. It doesn't play as good as it looks - but it came with 300 carts for $15!! The Kiss Alive II gets the most action. My collection consists of a few black alligator skinned cases chuck full of folk rock and 70s titles. Carole King, Paul Simon, Iron Butterfly and so on. Can't own enough Melanie carts!! Sheesh.   OASTEM! VVGG"

"I began collecting in earnest in about 1992 and bought my first recorder in that year. I drove to Harrogate with the lady who is now my wife [pictured]and paid £25 for a perfect Hitachi D135 recorder with some blank carts Since then I have had some big successes. In 1994, I bought a "Select" 8T player and about 30 carts for £12. In truth, I didn't want the player, the carts were all Moody Blues, Stones, Beatles etc. The carts I own I still have not catalogued but I must have around 300ish.Luckily, I love cheesy listening so of course 8T suits me down to the ground.

Brad Jackson, the chap in Goole, England where they don't go much on 8 tracks."
