Thanks to Lynne Alman for this tape!!

Abbie Hoffman seriously affected me when I was in high school. Reading "Steal this Book" at the tender age of 16 changed my life -- and got me in a lot of trouble! At least it broke me out of my society-induced hypnosis for a little while. Later I picked up "Wake Up America" on LP and found it an entertaining if pointless disc of Abbie in his prime.

It's basically an anarchic sound collage of TV and radio interviews with Hoffman (including various uptight and/or lunatic phone-in callers), recorded speeches, etc., interspersed with music by the 'Joint Chiefs of Staff', appearances by Jerry Rubin, and generally Abbie Hoffman being himself.

Lynn Alman sez -- "This one is hilarious! Most of it sounds like a bunch of stoned out hippies sitting around pledging anarchy, and the funniest part is track one which has actual recordings of people calling in to a radio show where Abbie was a guest and telling him all the reasons they hate him and why they think he sucks, and he just laughs at all of them, it is toooo funny!"
